Our Curriculum Overview

A Commitment to Excellence

Macaw & Quetzal School aims at offering all our students a broad and balanced curriculum that provides rewarding and stimulating activities to prepare them for the best social and cultural life.

Be it through our carefully curated books or engaging hands-on training, we ensure that every student receives individualized care. This personalized approach aids them in excelling across all subjects, leading to improved scores and a more promising future ahead.

Our curriculum will be a fusion of the British and Nigerian educational systems. We have chosen to incorporate the British curriculum for its competitive edge, aligning with international standards to position our students for success both within Nigeria and on a global scale. Additionally, we will retain certain subjects from the Nigerian curriculum to impart knowledge that holds significance within our society.
For instance, agriculture, being a prominent source of employment and livelihood in Nigeria, holds substantial importance. Therefore, we find it essential to acquaint our younger generation with this sector’s knowledge. Furthermore, quantitative and verbal reasoning, crucial even in employment selection tests, will be integral to our curriculum.
Ultimately, our blended approach aims to foster a profound understanding of our society, culture, and values among our students. This, we believe, will empower them to be catalysts for positive transformation within our nation.

Key Stage 1
This phase marks the elementary stage, initiating active learning for children. The primary subjects—English, Mathematics, and Science—will take precedence in terms of teaching time, forming part of the daily curriculum. Other subjects will also be allocated time based on their perceived importance. In the first year (Primary 1), special attention is given to phonics, ensuring your child can confidently read 40 words aloud by year-end. Should your child not meet the expected proficiency in this assessment, a reassessment will be conducted at the close of year 2 (Primary 2).

Key Stage 2
In the fourth year of this stage (Primary 4), significant focus will be directed towards multiplication. By the year’s end, your child should have successfully memorized the multiplication table, encompassing up to and including the 12-multiplication table. They should also demonstrate precision and fluency in their mathematical work.
